reissue - cass mccombs, singer-songwriter born in northern california in 1977 and currently residing somewhere in that state, is set to release wit’s end, his fifth-and-a-half album and third on domino, on april 11th. the result of two years recording in various homes and studios in california, new york, new jersey and chicago, wit’s end was produced by cass with ariel rechtshaid, with whom he also created catacombs.sounds that conjure the colors purple and black, this is his darkest record to date. it seems he is going deeper into the mania of a man buried alive inside his self-made catacombs, banging the stone walls, crying to be let out, and enjoying the quiet away from the outside world. however, he is not a man afraid of his own shadow, for in this environment of complete darkness, no shadows can be cast. this is a world of total feeling. here, words become a catalyst away from the slavery of arbitrary thought and toward feeling.

mister saturday nights eamon harkin dishes out another dose of rocking revamps on this the second release from his subway series imprint. this time the throne of blood man takes three numbers which should be somewhat recognizable to discerning ears and mutates them into jams designed firmly for the dance floor. >party out of sight< is a superb re-work of the bill withers seminal harlem. this edit made its first mark a few years ago in an earlier guise on mp3 but has now been further spruced and improved for wax. >the better kind< stretches out joy divisions >means to an end< and underpins it with a rocking drum pattern whilst >turn up the funk< is an excellent re-work of the proto hip-hop number >shoot the pump< from back in the day. a real bumper package!

the origin: a minimal bit of italo kit shoved through the hatch of a nasa shuttle (it was recorded in houston, tx after-all) and sent around several moons of several planets. what was discovered is only now being made available for public consumption.

boys noize and housemeister, 2 good old friends from berlin with a lot of love for analog found together again to rave in the studio. after their first collaboration in 2006 under the name of eastwest, they are now brining us 3 new jams you don¥t want to miss. shizzo is the track youd probably expect from these 2 f..ckers:loud, noizy and stupid! its up and down parts shake the club like you were sitting in a rollercoaster - beware this is not for everyone. nbaxx is a new breakbeat track. breakbeat?yeah! with a hint of inspiration by lfo freak, this one comes quite minimal but hard, just the way these buddies like it. saturday the secret a side on this maxi is a disco-tech track, with moving arpeggios and big melodic break where spheric disco pads cool you down before you and the kids jump up to this piece of 2011 disco music.

gem sampler 2.1 and 2.2 come just in time for a gem records >amsterdam dance event showcase< at the westerunie on saturday october 24th including a big poster and advert campaign for the sampler! artists featured on gem sampler 2.1 (gem006) are secret cinema and tom laws who both dropped a big fat techno bomb and peter horrevorts who supplies us with a huge peak time loop-disco techey stomper. nice… on gem sampler 2.2 (gem007) egbert provides an energetic yet deep and hypnotic techno track while roger martinez delivers a giorgio moroderesque italo influenced tech houser. on the flip, its kaap de goede hoop who bring some warm deep housey flavours to the mix and arjuna schiks who finishes it off with a big funky percussive groover.

a relatively recent partnership, harkin & raney draws from years and years spent lost in music. steve raney (known to many as oneauff) came to nyc in 2005 with ten years of djing already under his belt. it was shortly thereafter that he connected with eamon harkin, an irish-born dj who’s become a central figure in the city’s party scene thanks to his hugely influential club nights fun, prime time, mister saturday night, and sunday best.

part of the tight-knit group of neapolitan techno labels which includes rilis, analytic trail and mkt, loose records is the invention of legendary godfather of italian techno, rino cerrone. named after the napoli club, loose, the project was created as a platform for the development of newly emerging electronic acts.
mladen tomic (mkt /adult records) is the star for this latest release on loose records. kicking off the four-track ep is >fly & drive<, a stripped back cut constructed of crisp rolling beats, distorted acid lines and harmonious bell chimes.
